RAIGAD ZILLA PARISHAD PRATHAMIK SHALA, NAGZARI

An extensive renovation project by us at Nagzari Raigad Zilla Parishad Prathamik Shala has transformed the school, elevating it to private school standards and increasing student enrollment from 39 to 63.

  • Only 2 classrooms

  • LSR constructed 5 new classrooms

  • 1 new library

  • 1 new staff room

  • Completed in 2023

  • More work in progress on stage, playground, etc

  • Number of students increased from 39 to 63

LSR distributed solar lamps to

  • 50 in Thane, Maharashtra

SOLAR LAMPS INITIATIVE

Many villages in India lack electricity. Villagers often use wood or kerosene for light. We have taken the initiative to provide solar lamps to light up rural India.

TOILETS FOR RURAL INDIA

67% or so of rural households in India don’t have access to toilets. To help solve this problem, LSR has constructed over 350 toilets in Panvel, Maharashtra.

Before

  • Thousands of deaths per year due to diseases from open defecation

  • Environmental pollution

  • Compromise in safety and dignity, especially of women and children

After

  • Reduction in disease spread

  • Basic sanitation resulting in more cleanliness

  • Improved health and hygiene for rural population

RAKESH JAIN MADHYAMIK VIDYAMANDIR IN RAIGAD, MAHARASHTRA

Clean toilets in good quantity to improve the sanitation infrastructure of the school and in turn improve the quality of education. To bring about a behavioural change in the boys to use sanitation facilities and break the habit of open defecation. To bring a sense of cleanliness in school.

Before

  • 1 Indian toilet and 2 urinals for 250 boys

  • 3 Indian toilets (some broken) for 200 girls

  • 1 toilet each for male and female staff

After

  • 2 toilets and 5 urinals for boys

  • 5 toilets for girls

  • 1 toilet / 1wash basin each for male and female staff

  • The additional capacity has significantly improved hygiene standards and reduced wait times

Clean Drinking Water Intervention

A comprehensive clean drinking water initiative by us in Chindhran village, Maharashtra, significantly enhanced health and quality of life for its residents.

Before

  • 550 households, 192 homes

  • Lack of access to clean drinking water

  • Resulted in poor quality of life

After

  • LSR installed a water purification unit with a 500 LPH capacity

  • Provided 250 water jars and 250 pumps

  • Set up a water ATM machine

  • 20 litres of free water per day for each household for the first few months

  • At least 70% of households now have access to clean drinking water. Improved health and quality of life

Before

  • 600 residents, 150 households

  • Severe water shortages caused half the population to relocate to other areas

After

  • LSR constructed a well of size height 25ft, diameter 15ft (35K litres)

  • Improved water availability for domestic purposes

  • More than half residents returned to the village

  • Project finished in 2016
